Planning

Talk about how to record homework
A good system is to note:
- What the homework is
- Date due in
- What is needed to do the homework
- What the next thing to do is and when
and where it will be done (e.g. find information in
school library at lunchtime).
- Homework done - tick when the homework is done.
- Homework handed in - tick when it is handed in.
- If there is not any homework, write "none".
Put a reminder in the planner of the things your child needs to write down.
Fixed homework time slots
It is easier to plan if your child has a fixed time to do homework.
If a slot is not available, due to a social commitment,
your child can plan to fit the homework in on other nights that week.
Plan short breaks in homework time. It refreshes the brain, ready to do a bit more.
Tips
To really understand how to plan, youngsters learn by doing.
- It is normal to make mistakes. We learn from them and can improve.

You need the list of homework, the calendar and the school planner.
